Conscious Reflection

This time of year is magical. It has a vibing festive energy about it, and excitement is building as we ramp up to the new year.

It can also fly by at warp speed.

To ground myself in the now, and not get lost on the runaway train – one of the rituals I practice every year is to consciously reflect on the year that was. Thinking about all the highs, the lows, the challenges, the learnings, the celebrations. A year can zoom by SO fast (as this one has!), so without devoting the time and energy to this review, some of our insights and biggest learnings can get missed.

And you know what they say – a failure is not a failure if you learn from it. (I don’t really subscribe to the notion of “failing” anyway, but that’s another post!)

We cannot see our reflection in running water. It is only in still water that we can see.

I always find being in nature helps me connect within a lot stronger – heading to the beach, sitting in the park, or even lounging in the backyard. But your couch or kitchen table will do just fine too!

Go to your happy place.

Grab your pen, a journal and get comfy. It’s time to take a glance in the rear view mirror.

YEARLY REFLECTION:

  • What was my hardest challenge?

  • My learning from this challenge was

  • What worked well for me this year?

  • What didn’t?

  • I am most proud of

  • When did I love the most?

  • I am celebrating

  • I am most grateful for

Once you finish the journalling exercise, spend some time looking over your answers. You may be surprised at what you find. Some themes, some patterns, some a-ha moments await you.
