time to review

The year that was.

It’s been a massive year. 2016 has moved at warp speed and has been a whirlwind of BIG change both collectively for our planet, and for me personally. I experienced some really buzz-worthy highs, and also soul-crushing lows.

When times are challenging, it can be easy to burry your head in the sand, or get pre-occupied with the future – anything to stop us feeling what’s happening here and now.

But instead of heading blindly full-throttle into the new year, (and *gasp* setting new years resolutions that never work! – more on that in an upcoming post) it’s important to slow down, stop and reflect on everything 2016 has been for you.

It’s a powerful, cathartic and cleansing way to farewell the year that’s been, and in turn, provide a clean, receptive space for us to manifest and welcome all our dreams of 2017.

This time of year starts to get crazy. Heading towards the holidays we often find that our own needs fall further and further down the priority line as we rush around trying to get everything done. Between Christmas shopping, tying up lose ends at work, planning for holidays, and doing things for our family and friends – we often forget about ourselves.

I encourage you to take some time out of the madness, and enjoy a little quiet time for yourself. This may be after work, during a lunch hour, or during your free time on the weekend. Whenever you have an opening, mark a time in your diary and have a date with yourself.

So now it’s time to reflect on your last 12 months.

You might like to go sit in your local park, your favourite café, lay on the beach, or sit in your comfy chair at home when the house is quiet. Wherever you choose to reflect, pull out your favourite notebook, pour yourself a tea and get nice and comfy.

What do I want to welcome in for the new year?

I learnt a lot this year. Both about life, and also a lot about myself. I saw my vision come to life of living by the ocean and working for myself, I purchased a house, quit my day job, rescued an adorable dog – Frankie the Greyt, I opened my heart in a big way to a new relationship and I ticked off a long-held goal of volunteering in Africa.

I found this from my last year’s review, and I’ve got to say – standing back at re-reading this I feel a sense of gratitude and pride that I’ve actually made this my reality:

I’m committing to living out my vision. One of freedom, love and connection. One with daily doses of nature. One with a smaller community, away from the city. One where I can jump in the ocean all year round. To be closer to myself, and my surroundings. One where I give love, and am loved. And one where I have full self-expression of my passions and purpose. I want to experience ease, peace and joy in my daily life.
