5 ways to embrace winter solstice

Last night was the full moon, and also the winter solstice. Now apparently that is extremely rare and hasn’t happened in 70 years! When the solar and lunar cycles align so neatly, it creates a point of power. Lucky us, that we get to experience such a powerful event in our lifetime #winning.

Winter is all about stillness.  The days shorten, the light decreases and the temperature drops. External buzzing energy and distractions slowly diminish, leaving behind a stillness, a quietness, a return to YOU.

It’s a season governed by the recluse, the hermit. Activity gives way to dormancy. Life is still, indwelling and silent. This is a time of introversion, contemplation and going within. Symbolic winter invites us to quiet the mind, still the soul, and crystallize our inner workings.

This is a time to gain purity and clarification.

The winter solstice also marks the half-way point of the year! So it’s also a perfect point in time to reflect on where you have come, assess where you are now, and dream about where you want to go. You can work inwardly while Nature expresses her grand show of transition outwardly.

5 WAYS TO EMBRACE WINTER SOLSTICE

+ TURN INWARD

It’s all about re-establishing your connection to self. Slowing down, turning your gaze inward, and re discovering yourself again. As the buzzing external distractions begin to fade, use this time to be alone, practice self love and begin your own personal enquiry. Gently shift your focus inwards, and feel your internal energy softly buzzing within. It’s a perfect time to get back to your essence.

+ REFLECT

As you find yourself half way through the year, it’s the perfect time to reflect on your year so far, and review those goals you set at the beginning! Grab a journal and a pen, and carve out some time to sit and be with yourself. Check in – how are you tracking? What are your biggest learnings so far? Are you still connected to, and inspired by your goals? What have you achieved, and what’s still left to do? Practice gratitude for all the blessings in your life, and practice faith and trust for all the things that are yet to come. Reflection allows you to get clear on exactly what you want, which puts you in good stead for some manifesting magic!

+ LET THAT SH*T GO

During winter time whatever no longer serves you will just gently drop away (if you let it). Like a tree that looses it’s leaves, it’s blooming flowers, all outward facing ‘life’ seems to disappear. Yet the tree is far from dead. The inner life is full of vitality – the root system, the strong trunk, the flowing sap. The internal energy is strong and bright. The tree’s energy is simply directed inward instead of outward. Just like the trees,  you at this time need to stand bare and bold. What can you let go of? What’s really not working for you anymore? What are you tolerating in your life? What could you better focus your energy on? As you begin to drop the things that no longer serve you, you’re left with your strong foundations, your luminous inner core, your expansive roots.

+ CULTIVATE CREATIVITY

Hibernating doesn’t have to be boring, isolating or unproductive, no way josé! As you’re spending lots of time rugged up indoors, it’s the perfect opportunity to focus on harnessing your creativity and getting inspired to embark on passion projects. What do you love to do creatively? Drawing, writing, painting, singing, sewing, designing, photography, playing music? Let yourself explore one, or many areas of interest and see where your imagination can take you. This is the time where you plant the seeds for all the amazing experiences, activities and projects that will come to fruition over the spring and summer seasons.

+ NURTURE & NOURISH

This season is all about deeply caring for yourself, your WHOLE self; your body, your mind and your spirit. Moving your body lovingly and nourishing yourself with healthy warming foods.  Taking care of your mind with reading, creative outlets, being gentle with yourself and your emotions. Nurturing your spirit with self love, soulful activities and spiritual practices. Winter is about you returning to GRACE, your true state of being. It’s time to amp up your self care and really treat yourself as the divine being you are. Nurture and nourish your self more than ever before – cook some delicious whole foods, soak in a steaming bubble bath, get a massage, play with some crystals or oracle cards, meditate daily, sign up to the gym, book a spa day or treat yourself to a special treat. However your body and soul are calling you to nurture and nourish them, listen then act.

There you have it, 5 simple ways to really embrace this winter period and get your body, mind and spirit in line with the beautiful yin energy that this season brings us.
